The Walking Dead may have ended the series based on The Whisperer War, but the war itself is far from over. With a massive horde of the undead knocking on the doorstep of Alexandria, the community will need to pull together to overcome possibly to most difficult challenge yet. If you have not read issue or need a refresher, it is highly advised you do so or check out the Undead Walking recap of before diving into this recap. Issue picks up right where the previous installment left off. Rick Grimes is coming to the realization that the survivors still have an ocean of the undead to dead with and they are approaching the gates of Alexandria. The sound of the walkers starts to draw people out of their homes, particularly Andrea, who is ready to do her part in fighting them off.

The Walking Dead issue hit shelves today, as the biggest issue ever not in terms of its additional 8-pages but by printing over , copies for 25 cent sales at comic book stores. Celebrating the 25th birthday of Image Comics , The Walking Dead issue 's goal was to serve as a great jumping on point for new readers picking up the nearly free issue and a turning point for the plot which has stayed put in Alexandria for several years. Many fans suspected the issue would contain a major character death or other shocking revelations. With the stage set for Alexandria to fall, the cast and crew delivered. In the aftermath of a Whisperer War arc which didn't appear to shake the landscape as promised, Rick's Alexandria Safe-Zone was forced to act quickly in an effort to save their community. A herd of walkers so deep that the end wasn't visible crashed into the gate but not before precautions were taken.
It was published on February 1, Rick and Dwight are shocked to hear the herd so close to Alexandria. Andrea arrives and tells Rick she will gather the horses despite Rick's protests. Dwight tells Rick she will be fine, and heads off to help. Eugene tells Rick he is going to help lead the herd away. Annie warns the others that they are close.
