This Is How It Ends by Kathleen MacMahonTHIS IS HOW IT ENDS tells the story of two people who collide with each other just as the whole world seems to be caught between the hope and promise of Obama’s election and the catastrophic collapse of the global economy.
Bruno is a middle-aged American banker who has come to Ireland to escape the financial meltdown in his own country. Addie is an out-of-work Irish architect. Childless and isolated when she meets Bruno, her life seems to be on a downward spiral.
Addie and Bruno’s story is one of nationality and identity, of the power of optimism to defeat despair and the unstoppable march of time. It’s the story of two people who find joy together when they were least expecting it. Its about the past and the future and the elusive skill of living in the moment. It is a love story for our times.

So This is How it Ends
By the time he got there, the hair salon was a smoking hole in the ground. Flames darted toward nearby buildings and then back as if they were alive. Strangely, nothing else nearby had caught on fire. It was as if the salon had spontaneously combusted inside a bubble. Officer Bill Nichols pushed back his hat and rubbed the bridge of his nose with a sigh.
It Ends With Us by Colleen Hoover BOOK TALK
Eva Dolan is a name that I hear over and over again when chatting with UK-based readers - so when I discovered that her latest standalone was set to be released in the US this spring, I knew I had to jump at the chance to read it for myself. Thought-provoking and gritty, this socially-aware crime novel delivered one of my more conflicted reading experiences in recent memory. Writing this review has been a challenge precisely because there were just as many things I enjoyed about this book as there were qualities to it that frustrated me. My ultimate recommendation for this book? The building was once home to families, friends, children, couples, love, life. Now, almost every apartment is empty, the inhabitants forced out by the developers tearing down the old social housing to build luxury homes.
Track season starts in a couple weeks, but no one has told Coach Lindt about winter. He's convinced that the only way to get us into shape is to practice — even when my breath freezes right in front of me. This is Opportunity, Alabama. Sane people don't leave their homes when it's white and frosty outside. We stock up on canned food, drink hot chocolate until we succumb to sugar comas, and pray to be saved from the cold.
