I am an avid reader of all types of professional development books. Each summer, I choose books to read based on my classroom needs. I often choose a new book to read throughout the school year based on the needs of my current classroom or students. Today I want to share with you five of my current favorite reading professional development books that are fairly affordable, and then a few pricier options if you have a school budget or extensive professional development library. This book made the greatest impact on my guided reading instruction my second year of teaching.

A collection of 25 first-rate picture books, selected by teachers and adored by their students. Max is the hero of this beloved children's classic in which he makes mischief, sails away, tames the wild things, and returns home for supper. Fans of the ingenious little monkey will enjoy George's wild series of adventures in a traveling circus. A children's classic in which a bear leaves the safety of his department store shelf on a quest to be adopted by a little girl. Universal in its appeal, this story reveals a child's wonder at a new world, and the hope of capturing and keeping that wonder forever.
