The Picture of Dorian Gray by Oscar Wilde?Written in his distinctively dazzling manner, Oscar Wilde’s story of a fashionable young man who sells his soul for eternal youth and beauty is the author’s most popular work. The tale of Dorian Gray’s moral disintegration caused a scandal when it ?rst appeared in 1890, but though Wilde was attacked for the novel’s corrupting in?uence, he responded that there is, in fact, “a terrible moral in Dorian Gray.” Just a few years later, the book and the aesthetic/moral dilemma it presented became issues in the trials occasioned by Wilde’s homosexual liaisons, which resulted in his imprisonment. Of Dorian Gray’s relationship to autobiography, Wilde noted in a letter, “Basil Hallward is what I think I am: Lord Henry what the world thinks me: Dorian what I would like to be—in other ages, perhaps.”
B. Harley Bradley House, Kankakee: Address, Phone Number, B. Harley Bradley House Reviews: 4.5/5
Harley Bradley House. Hickox House is privately owned and not open to the public, but Bradley House is owned by a not-for-profit group, Wright in Kankakee , and is open for tours on Fridays, Saturdays and Sundays. It has seen its share of tragedy, misuse and intrigue over the years. That intrigue includes original owner Harley Bradley's suicide — although not on the property — and the home's use as a restaurant for 30 years. It was damaged and fell into disarray, foreclosures saw it boarded up twice, and a man who eventually purchased and worked on restoring Bradley House in the mids was kidnapped from the premises and killed.
Kankakee is the only city in the world where you'll find two Frank Lloyd Wright-designed homes side-by-side. Both homes have been privately owned and off limits to tourists — until now. The nonprofit group Wright in Kankakee recently acquired the title of one of the homes, known as the Harley Bradley House, and will open it as a museum.

The world is filled with ironies; one of the strangest being a little known fact that I ran across this morning while researching this story: when former Illinois Governor George Ryan placed a moratorium on executions and commuted all death sentences to life terms in January of for those who had committed heinous crimes, he also commuted the death sentence of Danny Edwards, the man who, not quite twenty-five years ago September , was convicted of kidnapping and murdering a man who had once baby-sat Ryan's own children. - The B. The Bradley House and the Willits House , also built in in Highland Park, Illinois and designed by Wright, compete for the title of the first Prairie School residence designed by Wright and built to his specifications.
