Novels of our time and foretelling our future: full of fury, longing and tentative hope. Having previously won the Man Booker Prize with The Blind Assassin , The Testaments could see Atwood become the second novelist to win the prize twice in its illustrious fifty year history. Tracking the lives and loves of a dozen British women through generations and social classes, Girl, Woman, Other weaves a distinctive, illuminating tapestry of modern British life. Delicate yet muscular, thoughtful yet dynamic, An Orchestra of Minorities churns with the wrench of heartache and the sacrifices we make for the ones we love. Previously shortlisted for the Man Booker Prize for his haunting novel The Fishermen , An Orchestra of Minorities delivers a welcome second nomination to an author with a striking ability to meld myth and lyrical storytelling with timelessly powerful themes. How to Vote

The Man Booker Prize longlist has included a graphic novel for the first time in the award's history. It was described as "oblique, subtle [and] minimal", with judges saying the "changing shape of fiction" meant it was about time that a graphic novel made it onto the longlist. Judge and best-selling crime novelist Val McDermid said: "We all read it and were blown away by it. The 13 titles on the longlist consists of six writers from the UK, three from the US, two Irish and two Canadian writers. Judges called it an "acute, stylist, intelligent novel about how we survive trauma" which "undermines the tropes of its own genre and leaves us with something that lingers". Expertly paced, Snap offers a beautiful evocation of the lives of children, and how they perceive and manage tragedy. It manages to keep you on the edge of your seat, while making you, as a reader, want to savour every moment.
